Milwaukee was a stop that we made during our road trip from Phoenix to Vancouver Island through central USA. Milwaukee is famous for artisan cheese and craft beer, of which there is plenty. We were here during fall so all of those beautiful fall colours were out!
VETERAN PARK & LAKE
We stopped first at Veteran park. The park is next to the ocean with a big open park space. When we were there there was a race going on.
It was Autumn and there were so many colours. The trees were green, yellow and all kinds of red.
There is nice lake surrounded by foliage.
They converted a empty area under a bridge into a park with tyre swings and pedestrian walkway under the bridge to across the river.
There are about 10 swings to choose from and lots of space. It was so fun to act like a kid and everyone around doing the same thing. There were kids and adults using the swings.
HISTORIC THIRD WARD
We then drove to the Historic Third Ward. Most are brick and there are still historic buildings with old signs like ‘shoe factory’ painted on the side.
This is where you feel the Midwest small big town. There are no skyscrapers or buildings above about 5 stories.
MILWAUKEE PUBLIC MARKET
We found a park (Sunday so free) and walked to the Milwaukee Public Market. There were a variety of local cheese, sandwiches, drinks, gifts and much more.
There is a boardwalk on the inside around the top with rooms that host cooking classes and such. Looking down you could see all the delicious food
RIVERWALK WAY BOARDWALK
Crossing N Water St we walked down and along N Riverwalk Way which is a boardwalk next to the river. These apartments have a great view and we also walked past the Milwaukee Ale House.
# CHEESE & CRAFT BEER
Milwaukee is famous for 2 things – cheese and craft beer. Yum!
